Story Time

Not too long ago, on an iceberg not that far away, there existed a kingdom of polar bears. Not your average polar bears, mind you, but intelligent polar bears. These bears had technology, and opposable thumbs. With their technology, the bears were able to do fantastic things. They had medicine that could cure diseases.

They had agriculture and produced so much food that no bear ever went hungry.
They had transportation and entertainment, and even digital money. Thanks to their technology, these bears were living longer, healthier, and more fruitful lives than any bears in polar bear history.

As the polar bear kingdom grew, a shadow grew alongside it. Their technology was warming the planet. At first, it didn’t seem like that big of a deal. But as the years passed by shot problem em worse started losing their homes.

The council of polar bear elders called for a meeting. Their outlook was, well, bearish. They tried to figure out what to do.

–“Perhaps we don’t need this technology”, they said.

But they knew that would come at a great cost. It would mean the end of medicine
and agriculture, and a return to being hungry and diseased.

–“Perhaps we need to reduce the population”, they said.

But that would mean fewer child bears, and population decline might happen too slowly to save the ice.

The queen bear raised her voice.

“It seems that no matter what decision we our children with a worse world than the one we live in today”.

An anxious energy flowed through the room.The polar bears, being bearing by nature, were unable to find any optimism. The situation was bleak, and bears did not seem to be the right animal to find hope in the darkness.

Suddenly, with a crash, the doors to the elder council meeting blasted open. The elder bears were stunned. They whispered to each other:

-“Could it be?” “I thought that was only a legend!”

But indeed, before their very eyes, stood an animal that was not bearish, but **bullish**. Not a polar bear, but a polar bull.

The polar bull laughed, brimming with confidence.

-“You bears are so predictable. Always afraid in the face of adversity. Always… bearish. And yet, you bears are the strongest, healthiest, most powerful bears in polar bear history! If there was ever a day for bears to be bullish, that day is today!”

The bull reached for his backpack and pulled out a solar panel, and laughed again.

-“Did you not consider that the same technology which brought you medicine and food could also bring you harmony with nature!? With just a little more progress, you bears can have your technology, and you can have your ice as well. You can leave your children with a better world than the one you live in today.”

A gasp raced through the drive crowd. Beard? Being bullish? Was it really possible that technology and nature could live in harmony? The queen bear raised her voice once again.

-“You tell a compelling story. But you are just one bull. What could one bull do against a plight that is threatening all of polar bear society?”

At this, the polar bull laughed loudest of all.

“Of course, there is only so much that a single bull can do. But of course, I did not come alone. When we bulls heard about the plight of our northern neighbours, we knew that we could not sit idle. All of polar bull society has come to help you in your time of need. All of polar kind will be working together to leave a brighter future for our polar children.”

The council of polar bear elders agreed to work with the bulls. There was much work to be done, and the problems wouldn’t be solved overnight. But, for the first time in a long time, the polar bears found themselves feeling… bullish

As I’m sure many of you have guessed, this is not just some story. We live in the world of the polar bears. From the politicians, to the media, to even friends and family, the world is very bearish on the future of technology and nature. And the Glow community is the polar bulls, the optimists that believe the future is not a choice between technology and nature, but rather a marriage between the two.
